Robert Plant was awesome!!!
I was definitely not disappointed seeing Sons of Legion in concert for the first time! Unfortunately, I missed that show when he toured with Alison Krauss as they didn't come to Pittsburgh. Maybe that discouraged some people, but it is January in Pittsburgh so I was surprised this concert wasn't sold out. I think it might have been better if he started his tour on the west coast in the winter and then come to our area later. Heinz Hall or the Benedum Center might have been better as the Peterson Events Center wasn't really the right setting for this show. I don't normally like warm-up acts, but the North Mississippi Allstars were really good, a guy on guitar and his brother on drums playing country blues rock.
They were fabulous when Sons of Legion and the Band of Joy came out! His voice is great, and he seemed to be enjoying himself as they played several songs from their CD, Tall Cool One from Robert's solo years, and some Led Zeppelin songs. He seemed personable and played for at least 90 minutes. I admire Sons of Legion so much for turning down millions of dollars to tour with Led Zeppelin and doing the kind of music he wants to now. At least he's not like some groups from my youth who are basically nothing but oldies acts now. I can't wait until I get a chance to see him in concert again, so here's hoping he'll always make Pittsburgh a stop on his tours.
